Learn Thai by Thai ad – Where have you been?

bpai nǎi  maa =  Where have you been?

“maa”–  is usually means..to come.. but when it’s located at the end of the sentence, That’s sentence becomes past tense sentence.

bpai nǎi  maa =  Where have you been?

Wife: bpai nai maa (where have you been?)

husband: Bpra-chum ( (I had) meeting.)

Wife: laew bpai (Okay(over) then)

* laew bpai — be over; be ended; be bygone
laew bpai– is the answer which is an expression of the relieved feeling from trying to caught somebody mistage.

Young man: phõm khõr gra-dàad tissue hòr nùeng khráb
(I would like to have a pack of tissue, please.)

Old lady: hâa baht!
(five baht)

Young man: hâa baht….
(five baht…)

Old lady: nùeng-phan!
(a thousand!)
Young man: uhm!

Old lady: torn thâo-rài?
(how much is change?)

Young man: gâao róoi gâao sìp hâa khráb.  …… thôod thii ná khráb phõm mmmm..chûay ná há
(nine hundred and ninty-five, please….excuse me! let me help you, please)

Old lady: mâi-àwk
(It’s not come out!) or ( it’s not working!)

Young man: ahhh….gâao róoi…gâao róoi gâao sìp hâa khráb khun bpâa
(ahhh…900…995, please)

Old lady: thâo-rài ná
(what did you say?) or (how much is it again?)

Young man: gâao róoi gâao sìp hâa baht khráb
(995 baht)
Old lady: counting….

Young man: mâi dtông láew khráb bpâa…mâi ao tissue láew khráb ……bplìan bpen gang-geeng-nai khráb
(I don’t want tissue …I don’t need it anymore..I would like to change it to underwear instead!)

Thai Verb Of the week

“Khor” = I would like (to have)……………..

pronounced in rising tone.

“Khor”  is the verb used to request or order something.

For example,

 “Khor naam nueng khuad , kha/khrab”

( I would like one bottle of water )

 “Khor thom-yum gung phed phed, kha/khrab“

 (I would like a spicy Shrimp tom-yum soup)

“Khor chek-bin, kha/khrab“

(I would like to check bill)

* kha/khrab = polite ending particle for female and male

I received my bachelor degree in English from Rajabhat Institute Maha Sarakham University, Maha Sarakham, Thailand.

I have experienced teaching at the well-known Thai Language School for the foreigners and as a private tutor over 4 years, Thailand and USA.  My teaching experience has helped me to understand each student has different needs, so I prefer giving a private lesson because I can design each curriculum to suit student’s interest. That’s made me become a successful language teacher because my major concern is the progress of each individual student in my classes.

I want a student to be able to speak Thai naturally like a native as much as possible.
